## What SnapGlow is

SnapGlow is a browser extension for people who screenshot or screen-share web apps that contain private data: founders posting revenue, developers sharing dashboards and consoles, support and sales teams on live calls. It hides secrets in the page itself (the DOM) before any pixels are captured, which is different from screenshot editors that blur pixels after the fact.

## Supported platforms

- Browsers: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Arc, Vivaldi (any Chromium browser that installs from the Chrome Web Store).
- Operating systems: Windows 10 and 11, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS.
- Not supported: Firefox, Safari.

## Auto-redaction (Pro)

One click redacts every match on the page, and new content is redacted as single-page apps re-render.

Built-in detectors:

- Emails: `name@company.com`.
- Keys and tokens: Stripe `sk_live_`, AWS `AKIA`, GitHub `ghp_`, JWTs, `secret=` assignments, webhook URLs.
- Money: `$18,490.00`, `₹1,00,000`, `250 EUR`, including amounts split across several HTML elements.
- Cards, IDs and IPs: card numbers such as `•••• 4242`, phone numbers, IPv4 and IPv6, UUIDs, IBANs.
- Faces and avatars: profile photos and round images.
- Custom words: client names, people, project names.
- Custom patterns: your own regular expressions, with a live tester in Settings.

Input and textarea values (including readonly fields) are checked too. Text inside rich editors (Gmail compose, Notion-style editors) is painted over without changing the document.

## Redaction styles

1. Frosted blur: scales with font size so large headings stay unreadable.
2. Pixel mosaic.
3. Solid bar: text fully hidden.
4. Dots (Pro): every letter and digit in detected page text becomes `•` while the format stays, for example `sarah.chen@vercel.com` → `•••••.••••@••••••.•••`, `$6,240.18` → `$•,•••.••`, and `sk_live_51Nx…` → `sk_live_••••••••` (known key prefixes stay readable). Because the real characters never reach the screenshot, AI de-blurring cannot recover them. Inputs, images and rich editors cannot hold replacement text, so they fall back to frosted blur.

## Manual tools

- Click-to-blur (B, Free): click any element to blur it; Shift-click blurs similar items.
- Edit text (T, Pro): change any heading, number or label before capturing, for example to show demo-ready numbers. Text you type is never re-redacted; if the page later re-renders that element, it is scanned again.

## Live Screen-Share Shield (Pro)

- Turn it on before a call and every tab is redacted before it paints, including tabs you switch to mid-call.
- Auto-activates when screen sharing starts (it detects `getDisplayMedia`) on Google Meet, Zoom (web), Microsoft Teams, Loom, Discord and Slack. Desktop meeting apps cannot be detected.
- App privacy presets blur whole regions such as chat and inbox sidebars in Gmail, Slack, WhatsApp, Discord, Teams and the Meet roster.
- Hold Alt and hover to peek at one item; hovering alone never reveals anything.
- Optional: turn the shield off automatically when sharing stops.
- Panic curtain (Alt+X, also on the free plan): covers every tab instantly with a frosted curtain and a custom message; you can still click and type underneath.

## Domain Shield (Pro)

Choose sites that are always redacted the moment they load (for example your CRM or billing dashboard), and a never-scan list for sites SnapGlow should ignore.

## Capture modes (Free)

- Region: crosshair selection, hold Shift to lock the aspect ratio.
- Element: snaps to cards, tables and panels; Up and Down arrows widen or narrow the selection.
- Visible tab.
- Full scrolling page: scrolls and stitches; sticky headers appear once instead of on every slice.

Resolution: on Retina and other 2x screens every capture is 2x. On standard (1x to 150%) screens, SnapGlow re-renders the page at 2x for region and element captures up to half the window, with no extra wait; an optional "Always sharp" setting does the same for the visible tab (about 2 seconds). Full-page captures use the screen's resolution. Text and vector graphics gain real detail at 2x; bitmap images only show the detail their source has.

## Studio

Every capture opens in Studio:

- 20 backgrounds (2 on the free plan) plus a custom gradient (Pro).
- Window frames: macOS dark, macOS light, Windows 11, browser, none.
- Padding, inset, corner radius, shadow depth, aspect ratios Auto, 16:9, 4:3, 4:5, 1:1.
- Annotations: blur box, pixelate box, redact bar, highlight box, arrow, numbered step counter, with undo and redo.
- Export: copy to clipboard and/or save PNG.
- Watermark: a small SnapGlow badge on the free plan; removable or replaced with your own text on Pro.

## Settings page

A full-tab settings page with per-domain rules, the never-scan list, custom words and patterns, default redaction style and blur strength, Studio defaults, JSON backup and restore of settings, and a plain-language list of exactly what SnapGlow can access.

## Privacy

- Detection uses local pattern matching; screenshots are rendered in the browser.
- Pages, captures and redacted text never leave the device.
- No SnapGlow account, no cloud storage, no analytics.
- Network calls: license activation and validation with Dodo Payments only.
- Site access is requested only when needed: one site at a time for Domain Shield, all tabs for the screen-share shield. It can be revoked at chrome://extensions.

## How SnapGlow compares

- Xnapper and CleanShot X are macOS screenshot apps that edit pixels after capture (Xnapper can auto-detect some sensitive data after capture). SnapGlow redacts the live page in any Chromium browser on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS, and adds a screen-share shield.
- BrandBird and Pika are web screenshot beautifiers sold mostly by subscription; they frame uploaded images but do not redact live pages or protect screen shares.
- Blur extensions such as DataMask and Blur It hide data during calls, typically by manual selection; SnapGlow adds automatic detection, the Dots style, full-page capture and Studio framing.

## Common questions

- Best Chrome extension to blur sensitive data on a screen share: SnapGlow auto-redacts emails, keys, amounts and IDs in every tab and turns on automatically when sharing starts on Meet, Zoom, Teams, Loom, Discord and Slack.
- Xnapper alternative for Windows and Chrome: SnapGlow runs in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc and Vivaldi on Windows, Linux, ChromeOS and macOS for $6.99 once.
- How to hide API keys in a screenshot: open SnapGlow with Alt+S, turn on Keys & tokens, capture, and export from Studio.
